Education
Upper Hutt has many excellent preschools, primary schools and secondary schools. Wellington’s Victoria University and the region’s many other tertiary institutions are all within easy commuting distance for Upper Hutt students.
Industry Training Graduation
The inaugural Wellington Industry Training Graduation celebration was held at the Micheal Fowler Centre on Tuesday 1st August 2006, with this years ceremony confirmed for Thursday 2nd of August. Industry training graduations are an initiative of the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs and organised by local councils.
Approximately 140 recent industry trainees celebrated the completion of their studies. Students attending had completed a wide range of qualifications in the following areas: builders and plumbers, glaziers and joiners, drainlayers and gasfitters, gardeners and furniture-makers, mechanics and joiners, aviation, hospitality, retail, community services and sport and recreation industries.

Tertiary learning
Upper Hutt City is home to the New Zealand International Campus (Wellington) Ltd, a unique educational facility. It is unique in that the University Degree Programs delivered are Australian qualifications. They are delivered at their beautiful campus in Heretaunga, about a 30km drive from the Wellington CBD.
These Australian qualifications are recognised within New Zealand, Australia and throughout the world. Another distinctive aspect of the New Zealand International Campus (Wellington) Ltd is that, at the one campus, a student can:
- Graduate from the English Foundation Program (36 weeks) and directly enter a Degree Program on campus;
- Upon successful completion of the degree Program,apply to enter a postgraduate Masters Program.
