Local Elections
Leadership is a core role and function of the Mayor and elected members of Council, who are responsible for community leadership and setting the policy direction for the Upper Hutt City Council.
Every three years, on the second Saturday in October, local authority elections are held to elect the new Mayor and ten Councillors to represent the people of Upper Hutt.
The last elections were held on 13 October 2007 and the next elections will be held in October 2010. For further information, contact Marty Grenfell - Electoral Officer on (04) 527-2169.
Once the elections have been held, the new Council must then organise itself to undertake its responsibilities for the next three years.
Notes:
- By-elections are held when a vacancy occurs.
- The elections of regional councils, city and district councils and community boards are held at the same time as elections for district health boards and licensing trusts.
